Farmers from the southern regions and Transcarpathia have already started harvesting watermelons. The season started at approximately the same time as last year, but currently only individual farms are selling large volumes of produce.
As of today, the main sales of watermelons are conducted at a price of 20-28 UAH/kg ($0.48-0.67/kg), with supply volumes at the moment being very small. The selling prices for the first batches are on average 10% higher than at the beginning of the previous season.
“Mass sales of watermelons in Ukraine will start closer to mid-July. Farmers do not rule out a sharp drop in watermelon prices in the near future due to an increase in supply on the market from local farms,” market participants note.
