Detectives of the Regional Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Lviv region have shut down a channel of illegal transportation of timber abroad, as reported by agronews.ua.

The investigation revealed that a resident of Lviv region, registered as an individual entrepreneur, organized the illegal export of oak timber to EU countries. The suspect obtained certificates of origin for the timber and the lumber produced from it based on forged documents.
During the searches, the detectives seized 22.6 m3 of timber that had already gone through customs clearance procedures and was intended for illegal export to EU countries. Its approximate value is over 1 million UAH. Additionally, documentation, phones, computer equipment, and other items were confiscated.
Pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Part 2 of Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling of timber and valuable wood species). Other individuals involved in the illegal activity are being identified.
