A tense situation has arisen in the tomato market: supply is rapidly decreasing, while prices are soaring. Experts have explained why this is happening and warned that this is not the limit, agronews.ua reports.

Over the past week, prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine have soared by an average of 51%, reaching 50-60 UAH/kg. Analysts attribute this leap to a significant reduction in supply due to cold weather and high demand, which could provoke further price increases.
The main reason for the price hike is the limited supply of tomatoes in the market. Producers explain this by several factors:
– Due to the cold weather across Ukraine, the harvesting of crops in greenhouse complexes has significantly decreased.
– Most small producers have practically finished selling their products. The remaining small batches often have low quality.
– As a result, large greenhouse complexes release vegetables in small batches, which cannot fully satisfy the high demand.
Despite this sharp increase, it is worth noting that current tomato prices in Ukraine are still on average 20% cheaper than in the same period last year.
Analysts and producers agree that the current price hike is likely not the last. Even after the price increase, the demand for tomatoes remains consistently high. Therefore, many producers have announced their intention to make further attempts to raise the selling prices of their products next week.
