For the second week in a row, prices for local garden strawberries are decreasing in Ukraine. The main reason for this situation, according to experts, is the rapid increase in the supply of this berry from the southern regions of the country. At the same time, producers characterize demand as restrained, agronews.ua reports.

As a result, in conditions of tough competition, gardeners are forced to gradually reduce the selling prices for this perishable product. Currently, Ukrainian producers offer garden strawberries at prices ranging from 120 to 200 UAH/kg ($2.71–4.52/kg), which is on average 21% cheaper than a week ago.
According to farmers, they are forced to lower selling prices primarily due to the increase in the supply of this berry on the market. Significant pressure on prices is also exerted by the growth in supplies of imported garden strawberries from Greece, Turkey, and Spain, the price of which usually does not exceed 200 UAH/kg ($4.52/kg).
It is worth noting that as of today, garden strawberries on the Ukrainian market are offered on average 11% more expensive than at the beginning of June last year. At the same time, most market participants agree that prices for this product may decrease even more significantly from next week, when garden strawberries from open ground will start to be massively available for sale.
