Experts believe that the optimal soil temperature for this vegetable is between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius during the day and between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius at night. This crop, more than others, also loves fertilization.
To get a large harvest, eggplants need constant care. Gardeners should pay special attention to the bed during the flowering period of the bushes. If you notice that there are many flowers, but no fruits are forming, immediate action is needed. Otherwise, you may not get to taste delicious fruits.
Various factors such as fog, rain, heat, sudden cold snaps, overcrowding, improper fertilization, diseases, and pests negatively affect the crop yield.
For example, during the flowering period, if there is a heatwave (above 35 degrees Celsius), the pollen can become sterile, preventing pollination. Experts recommend regular watering of the garden, keeping the windows and doors of the greenhouse open, and providing shade for the plants in the garden.
Special attention should be paid to watering during flowering and fruiting. Remember that the soil should be moist even at a depth of 30-40 cm, but excessive watering can harm the plant.
Usually, during extreme heat, eggplants are recommended to be watered twice a week. Use only standing water at a temperature of 22-25 degrees Celsius for watering. It is best to do this in the morning.
Don’t forget about regular fertilization. Eggplants thrive, bloom, and bear fruit only if they have enough nutrients. They also need loose soil, which should be considered in advance during planting. Gardeners recommend adding manure, biohumus, or compost. If the bed is dug in clayey and heavy soil, sand with peat should also be added.
