Ukrainians are traditionally concerned about one of the main issues in autumn – the price situation with potatoes. After last year’s price fluctuations, when the cost of potatoes significantly increased due to market shortages, consumers are now closely monitoring the new harvest and forecasts from producers. Should they prepare for higher prices in autumn, or on the contrary – will potatoes remain affordable? Industry experts reassure: there are no objective reasons for price growth, agronews.ua reports.

A member of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers, head of FG “Adelaide” Serhiy Rybalko noted that there are no reasons for raising potato prices.
“There are no reasons at all to increase potato prices, absolutely none. The harvest is formed, potato harvesting is underway. Unless there are any cataclysms, for example, prolonged rain for 3 weeks or frosts down to 5-10 degrees. That is, if this does not happen, then I do not see any precautions for potato prices to rise objectively,” the expert said.
According to him, the harvest is approximately at the level of last year, slightly better, about 10-15% better, but more has been planted, with increased planting areas.
“And a very good harvest in Europe, and this harvest in Europe puts strong pressure on the Ukrainian market. So now there are many budget procurements, including those working for the army, purchasing Polish potatoes. Therefore, there will be no shortage like last year,” emphasized Serhiy Rybalko.
