According to the investigation, a company officially engaged in timber export from Bukovyna, under a contract with a Romanian company, was supposed to supply firewood for non-industrial use to the EU, as reported by agronews.ua.

However, the manager decided to conceal timber instead of regular firewood in the shipments, which is prohibited from being exported from Ukraine.
The forbidden timber materials for export were attempted to be transported by rail through the customs post “Vadul-Siret” of the Chernivtsi Customs. During the inspection of the wagons, customs officers noticed discrepancies in the documents.
A thorough check revealed coniferous and deciduous timber hidden under the firewood, which, according to the legislation, is prohibited from being taken abroad. The total volume of smuggled timber exceeds 41 cubic meters.
The manager of the company has been informed of suspicion of attempting the illegal transportation of timber (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 1 of Article 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
